PHARMACY & WELLNESS · Custom pharmacy

Medication made for one specific person.

Custom medications prepared in our on-site lab in Kelowna, based on your prescription. Talk to the pharmacy about the strength, form or ingredients your prescriber has requested.

THE KIWI APPROACH

Sometimes a standard medication isn’t the right fit.

A child may need a different form, an adult may struggle to swallow a tablet, or a prescription may need an ingredient left out.

Our pharmacists look at the specific need, then work with your prescriber. At Kiwi, preparation happens in our own Kelowna lab.

What can be customized

A prescription may call for a different strength, dosage form or ingredients. The pharmacist checks the reason for the change, available alternatives and what can be prepared.

Not every medicine can be made in every form.

When the usual form is difficult

Swallowing difficulties, a child’s prescription or a specific ingredient sensitivity can make a standard product unsuitable. Ask the pharmacist whether a different preparation is possible.

Allergy-aware does not mean that every preparation is free from every allergen.

Hormone preparations and skincare

Hormone and thyroid prescriptions, dermatology and custom skincare are areas to discuss with Kiwi’s compounding team. The medical assessment and prescribing stay with the qualified prescriber.

The pharmacy reviews the prescription, prepares the medication and helps explain the practical details.

How it works

  1. Your prescriber sends the prescription.

  2. Our pharmacist reviews it and contacts the prescriber if anything needs clarifying.

  3. The lab prepares it and the pharmacy checks the finished medication.

  4. We explain how it should be used and stored, and when to contact us with questions.

The people behind your prescription

James Epp leads the Kiwi pharmacy team. Our pharmacists and compounding team work with your prescriber, so the person explaining your next step is connected to the people preparing it.

Time, cost and getting it home

Preparation time and cost depend on the prescription. Ask about the estimate, insurance coverage, pickup or delivery before preparation starts.

The team can confirm the arrangements for your medication, including any storage requirements.

Good to know. A compounded medication requires a valid prescription and pharmacist review.

Questions before you book?

Do I need a prescription for a compounded medication?

Yes. A valid prescription and pharmacist review are required. Kiwi can coordinate with your prescriber about the preparation.

Can compounding help with swallowing difficulties or ingredient sensitivities?

Sometimes. A different form or an ingredient change may be possible, but not every medicine can be prepared in every form. The pharmacist checks the specific prescription and sensitivity.

How long will preparation take, and what will it cost?

Timing and cost depend on the prescription. The pharmacy can confirm an estimate, insurance coverage and pickup or delivery arrangements before preparation begins.
